He joined Navrachana University in March 2013 as an Associate Professor.

Scholarship and Accomplishments
Dr. Bhairav Thakkar is an accomplished researcher. After completion of his doctoral research, he went to The Netherlands to pursue post-doctoral research. Subsequently, upon return to India, he founded a software consultancy company. His research interest revolve around description of failure in metals and laminated composites. He is also involved in developing low-cost wind turbines. He is currently developing model experiments to teach structural engineering to undergraduate and graduate students. He is currently working as Head, Civil Engineering Department at Navrachana University and is also spearheading the efforts to establish Computer Science and Engineering department. Further, he is actively involved in conducting sessions on Khoj, and interdisciplinary subject in the university. He is also educating the final year students of Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering disciplines for entrepreneurship which is expected to enable the students to establish their own business ventures.

Dr. Thakkar teaches Structural Engineering to Engineering undergraduates. Heexposes students to fundamentals via hands-on projects and continuously strives to develop pedagogy to help students to visualize various concepts of solid mechanics. He has chosen teaching to as a way to conduct research in education. Recipient of the Best Teacher Award at Navrachana University, he is greatly enthused by the teaching-learning processand is highly inspired by work of students of Navrachana University. He has guided five Masters Dissertations and 14 undergraduate dissertations. He serves as an External Examiner to review Masters Dissertation projects at M. S. University of Baroda, Parul University and Gujarat Technological University. He has given expert lectures and has worked as a resource person for numerous Faculty Development Programs, Short Term Training Programs and workshops.

Dr. Thakkar has published extensively in academic journals and conference proceedings. To date he has published over 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals proceedings of national and international conferences.
