What is the MSW Course?

Master of Social Work (MSW) is a postgraduation program in the field of Social Work which is two years in duration. Aspirants can pursue MSW course after pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in any stream. The course offered at Navrachana University is a generic course integrated with field-based experiences and research.

What is the scope of a Master of SocialWork degree?

Increased cognizance of social influences on human life has led to the boom in social work in the India, the need for professionals in the field is growing day by day. Aspirants who pursue a MSW Degree can work in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), medical psychiatric social work, Human Resource Management (HRM), criminology, correctional administration, NGOs and many welfare communities. Alternatively, the course also offers an exposure to entrepreneurial skills and know-how for students aspiring to be social entrepreneurs.

Candidates who want to pursue the MSW course need to have good communication skills, empathy, tolerance, persuasion, emotional intelligence, social perceptiveness, critical thinking, integrity, self-awareness and discipline.

What is the eligibility to program at Navrachana University?

Any graduate from any course with minimum 50% is applicable. The potential candidate must clear the entrance exam and viva. Knowledge of English is a must, knowledge of local language is preferred but not a limiting factor.

What is the entrance exam like?

It is based on general knowledge. We focus on assessing your strengths in a situation-based test. Written test is followed by viva.

How long will it take to earn my MSW Degree?

It usually takes 2 years (4 semesters) to complete the program.

My Bachelor's Degree is not in social work. Can I still apply to the program?

Absolutely. In fact, about 65% of our students have degrees other than social work, including psychology, sociology, English, anthropology, and many others.

What orientation activities does the program provide for new students?

We require all new students to attend orientation sessions that introduce you to campus resources, support services, curriculum, financial aid and field instruction.

Is the course content and curriculum of the program in line with UGC requirements?

Yes. The course curriculum is in line with the UGC Model Curriculum. Over and above that the curriculum is regularly reviewed by academicians and industry experts to be in line with the current needs of the job market

Is attendance compulsory?

Yes, 80% attendance in theory and 100% in fieldwork.

Is student housing available?

Yes, the University offers housing options for graduate students.

What about placement after the program completion?

Navrachana University provides placement assistance, through an in-house Training and Placement Cell of the University.

What kind of placements do students get?

The students get placed in a variety of openings related to social work like at the HR Department with corporates or with an NGO. Students can also establish their own NGO, work with CSR projects, and on research projects etc.

Can I pursue a further course abroad based on MSW Degree?

Yes. The program is designed in such a manner which fulfils the requirements of further studies abroad. The curriculum also integrates world views in different subjects and provides exposure to students on global trends and issues.

Can I work while I am completing my MSW?

Few of our students are working part-time during most of the program. You will need some flexibility in your workplace while completing your field work. Most field work will require students to work during normal business hours.
