The M.Sc. in Food Science and Dietetics is a distinctive two-year postgraduate program designed to prepare students for the dynamic and ever-expanding field of nutritional health sciences. Focused on cultivating essential skills in both disciplinary and interdisciplinary areas, the program places a strong emphasis on research and community health. It offers a comprehensive curriculum that not only broadens a student’s knowledge base but also enhances their laboratory skills, fostering a holistic development approach.
The program facilitates research, training, and education in the crucial field of Public Health through the Navrachana University Centre for Public Health (NUCPH) in collaboration with the University of Arizona, USA. The Master’s degree program is divided into mandatory courses and university electives. The mandatory courses include, core theory and laboratory courses, summer internship and dissertation project or industrial internship. For the university electives, the student must choose a course from a specified university elective course catalogue. The university electives serve to acquire additional technical, interdisciplinary, and professional skills beyond the core courses. Elective modules can be chosen from the entire range of courses offered across NUV.
This program assures students of a holistic blend of science, health, and technology, making graduates well-equipped for careers in nutrition, diet-care, food industries, research, and healthcare. The program structure comprises 4 semesters of six months’ duration each. The core courses are designed to provide emphasis on areas of nutrition & therapeutics, public and community health management, importance of food safety, diet management, Food processing and technology with special emphasis on making the students industry-ready and research oriented.
A series of seminars on cutting-edge topics in food science, personalized medicine and dietetics provides students with exposure to the latest developments in the field. The academic curriculum is designed with a focus on professional development, including career development workshops, networking events with hospitals and industry professionals, and internships.

Choice-based Curriculum
Navrachana University, a premier university in Vadodara, known for its innovative and forward-looking approaches to education has now implemented a choice-based curriculum for its students. It is aimed at transforming the student learning experience, empowering them to “tailor-make” their own degree.
The need of the hour today is to create highly skilled professionals who possess a broad-based outlook enabling them to collaborate, understand and empathize with larger sociocultural realities.
- Choice-based curriculum empowers students to choose 10% of course credits of their choice from other domains.
- The mandatory courses of one domain will become the elective courses in other domains.
- For instance, a student of Food Science and Dietetics can study Interior Design, Film Making, Journalism, Human Resource, Business and Law, Architecture and Engineering courses and vice versa as a part of elective courses.
Students are required to take up a short term summer internship (4 to 8 weeks) in second semester and an extensive long term internship (4-6 months) in the last semester of study. Students have choice for opting either dissertation project or internship.
Candidates who have completed their B.H.M.S., B.A.M.S., B. Pharm, M.B.B.S. and B.Sc. degree can apply for the course. The students with B.Sc. degree from recognized universities in any of the following Programs with minimum 50% aggregate marks are eligible to apply: Home Science, Foods and Nutrition, Botany, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Life Science, Zoology and Biological Sciences or any other allied Programs.
The candidates are required to submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP) followed by multiple Choice (Objective) written test and interaction. Admission based on Merit (written test & interaction).
Limited number of Merit Scholarships are available to meritorious students with a score of over 70% marks in Graduation exam. These scholarships are offered to students whose parent’s combined income does not exceed Rs 8 lakh per year. Interested candidates must meet Admin Department after seeking admission.

A mentorship program for M.Sc. Food Science and Dietetics students is designed to provide invaluable guidance, support, and opportunities for personal and professional development within the field of health science. Ratio of Mentor: Mentee is 1:3.
