The Integrated BSc-MSc Organic Chemistry is designed to offer a comprehensive, vertically integrated, and academically rigorous education in chemical sciences with a specialized focus on organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms, catalysis, molecular design, and structure-activity relationships. The five-year curriculum is structured to ensure progressive conceptual depth, research orientation, and professional relevance, in alignment with national higher education frameworks and outcome-based education (OBE) principles.

The program comprises core and major courses spanning Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Green Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Chemical Biology, and Research Methodology. These courses collectively establish a strong theoretical and experimental foundation essential for advanced training in organic chemistry. Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary elective courses, offered through a choice-based curriculum, enable students to broaden their academic exposure and develop competencies across allied scientific and technological domains. A common foundation program in humanities, environment and climate change, critical thinking, research, and data science further supports holistic student development. University electives are selected from an approved catalogue to ensure academic coherence and institutional quality standards.

The curriculum emphasizes the integration of theory with practice through extensive laboratory courses, industrial internships, and collaborative research projects with faculty and industry partners. Advanced elective modules allow students to pursue specialized areas such as Advanced Organic Synthesis, Organometallic Chemistry, Supramolecular Chemistry, Natural Products Chemistry, Polymer and Materials Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Computational Organic Chemistry, Green and Sustainable Synthesis, Industrial Hygiene and Safety, Intellectual Property Rights, and Regulatory Affairs.

Students receive exposure to contemporary developments in organic and chemical sciences through seminars, expert lectures, thematic workshops, and interactions with industry professionals and researchers. These engagements ensure that learners remain informed about emerging technologies, industrial practices, and global research trends.

A key capstone component of the program is the guided research dissertation, wherein students undertake independent research, demonstrate methodological competence, apply advanced laboratory techniques, and contribute to knowledge creation in organic chemistry and its interdisciplinary applications.

Graduates of the Integrated BSc-MSc Organic Chemistry acquire strong disciplinary knowledge, advanced laboratory and analytical skills as well as research aptitude, required to excel in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, agrochemicals, polymers and materials, biotechnology, dyes and pigments, and allied chemical industries. The program’s structure, pedagogy, and assessment strategies adhere to OBE principles to ensure academic quality, relevance, and continuous improvement, preparing students for higher studies, research careers, and professional roles in India and abroad.

  • Well-structured classroom sessions, and close personal interaction with faculty.
  • Regular workshops, talks and interactive sessions with industry experts.
  • Experiential learning through exclusive visits to Industries, Research Institutes, etc.

Choice-based Curriculum

Navrachana University, a premier university in Vadodara, known for its innovative and forward-looking approaches to education has now implemented a choice-based curriculum for its students. It is aimed at transforming the student learning experience, empowering them to “tailor-make” their own degree.

The need of the hour today is to create highly skilled professionals who possess a broad-based outlook enabling them to collaborate, understand and empathize with larger sociocultural realities.

  • Choice-based curriculum empowers students to choose 10% of course credits of their choice from other domains.
  • The mandatory courses of one domain will become the elective courses in other domains.
  • For instance, a student of Engineering can study Architecture and Design courses and vice versa.

Minor discipline courses

Navrachana University offers its students’ the opportunity to pursue a Minor discipline along with their major degree program, following one’s interest, which facilitates the growth of additional skills. Minors are a means of diversifying the understanding of a topic and a reflection of who one is as an individual. For example, a student of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) can choose a minor in ‘Interior Design’.

To attain a Minor, the students will need to do 18 credit worth of courses designated to diversify interests and gain a professional edge!

List of Minors

Health Science | Computer Science & Engineering | Business Law | Interior Design | General Management | Mechatronics | Film Production
