Professor Sandeep Vasant, PhD, is a distinguished academic leader and visionary in higher education. He serves as Professor in the Computer Science Program at the School of Engineering and Technology, Registrar of Navrachana University, and the founding Director of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Computing Science (CICS). The Centre is dedicated to fostering cross-disciplinary research in the critical domains of Artificial Intelligence and Healthcare.
With more than 22 years of exemplary experience in teaching, research, academic administration, strategic leadership, and industry consultancy in computing sciences, Professor Vasant combines deep scholarly expertise with practical impact in higher education and beyond.
A major milestone in his career is being awarded the prestigious Fulbright-Nehru International Scholarship for 2024-2025, one of the most competitive and esteemed recognitions globally. During his time in the United States under this scholarship, he engaged with distinguished professors and senior leadership at top-rated institutions—including Purdue University, University of Chicago, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Northwestern University, Art Institute of Chicago, University of Notre Dame, and Gallaudet University—to explore best practices in higher education administration, with the aim of advancing internationalization efforts and fostering meaningful collaborations for Navrachana University. His valuable insights and experiences earned him a special invitation from the Ambassador of India to the USA at the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., where he shared his transformative perspectives.
Prior to joining Navrachana University, Professor Vasant served as Registrar at Anant National University, Ahmedabad, where he played a pivotal role in establishing robust systems, streamlined processes, and progressive policies to enable effective, solution-oriented administration. Earlier, as head of the Office of the Academic Registrar at Ahmedabad University, he spearheaded strategic academic planning and execution, ensured full compliance with UGC and Government of Gujarat regulations, formulated institutional policies, designed comprehensive course catalogues, managed the complete student lifecycle, and drove automation initiatives for operational excellence.
An inspiring educator and researcher, he has taught advanced subjects such as Object-Oriented Programming, Open-Source Technology, and Software Engineering at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His scholarly contributions include more than 15 high-quality publications in reputed international and national journals. Professor Vasant has been a dedicated contributor to the academic community, volunteering extensively at seminars and conferences, delivering expert sessions on Effective Classroom Teaching and Learning using Information and Communication Technology to empower educators and trainers, and serving with distinction as Vice Chairman (2016-17) and Chairman (2017-18) of the Computer Society of India, Ahmedabad Chapter.
