PROF. PRATYUSH SHANKAR

Prof. Pratyush Shankar joined as Dean of SEDA in mid 2020. Before this, he taught at Faculty of Architecture at CEPT University for more than two decades. During his career at CEPT he held the position of Acting Dean of Architecture apart from being the head of undergraduate program. He was also appointed as Director of the Undergraduate Office; a CEPT University level position where he brought about major reforms by introducing choice based learning, flexible curriculum and major/ minor based PG programs.
Prof. Pratyush, was awarded the prestigious Senior Humboldt Fellowship by the Humboldt foundation in Germany and also recently led the Humboldt Residency Program, 2023 as the Creative Director, that aimed at exploring the vital themes of Sustainable Development and Climate Change. He is also the Brand Ambassador of the University of Bonn where he was hosted from 2015-17. He is also an invited guest Professor at TU Darmstadt, Germany where he has been teaching for the last six years. Prof. Pratyush has recently authored the book “History of Urban Form of India” (Oxford University Press, 2023), which offers a theoretical construct that will allow people to understand better the contemporary cities of the region. Another of his authored book is titled the “Himalayan Cities” (Niyogi Publishers, 2013). Apart from numerous book chapters and articles Prof. Pratyush was widely lectured and delivered public talks in Europe, South East Asia and India
Prof. Pratyush was awarded the Ford Asia fellowship in 2008 and won the JK national award of Architects of the Year in 2013 for residential design. He was recently appointed member of expert committee of Niti Aayog on “ Hill Architecture and Planning” . Prof. Pratyush also runs his own practice. He very strongly believes in transformative potential of good teaching. To that effect he has been spearheading efforts at SEDA to improve teaching, introducing choice based curriculum along with emphasis on innovative pedagogies to improve students learning.
