School of Liberal Studies and Education offers programs in Teacher Education that is highly reputed because of their high-quality curriculum, distinguished faculty members and focus on practical training. With the connect in premier schools and the local education community as an advantage, Navrachana University offers distinctive undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programs [B.Ed. and PhD (Education)] that equip students to ace the field of Education. 

With training in broad-based, practical education in School Teaching through disciplinary courses, electives and specialized knowledge in two School Subjects, the two-year B.Ed. Program prepares students for multiple contexts and roles in contemporary schools. The program is approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). While our processes and teaching of Critical Thinking, Independent study and Inclusive Education course add to the innovative aspects of the NUV curriculum, our focus on hands-on-education through simulation exercises prepares students for real-life experiences in actual classrooms.

The Bachelor of Education program of Navrachana University is a well thought program that prepares the student teachers as thought leaders and thinkers in school education. It focusses on the fundamentals of psychology, fundamentals of teaching school subjects like English, Social Sciences, Economics, Commerce, Mathematics, Sciences and Critical Thinking. The basis of our teacher education program delves into Indian values, culture and latest pedagogy for teaching along with solid foundation in technology. It is a holistic program that readies a student teacher for the field of Education & Teaching.

The Bachelor of Education Program is divided into mandatory course, discipline specific electives, and University elective area. The compulsory courses focus on the Psychology, Learning and teaching, Engaging with stakeholders and more. In addition, the student must choose university electives from a specified catalogue. The elective area serves to acquire additional technical, interdisciplinary, and professional skills. Elective modules can be chosen from the entire range of Courses offered across NUV.  

 

The Bachelor of Education program seamlessly integrates the practical training required in the field of education with the theoretical knowledge and concepts required for the field thereby preparing graduates who have complete knowledge of the academia and industry (school education system). The core courses are from thematic backgrounds like Psychology, Disciplinary Specific knowledge required to teach school subjects, understanding stakeholders, knowing and devising assessment, Reflective Practices, initiation into school set up and Critical Thinking. These courses are taught with pedagogy like discussion, thinking into the key aspects of the subjects, exploring concepts with the teacher, experiential learning, art integrated learning and more. This lays a robust foundation for becoming a professional in the field of teaching. 

The discipline specific elective helps the student teacher to become a teacher relevant to the subject to be taught. Based on the graduation and post-graduation subjects, the student teacher gets electives like English, Science, Math, Commerce, Economics and Social Sciences. This helps to prepare the student teacher to teach in the schools. 

The program places a strong emphasis on Critical Thinking as a component of teacher training program. This program helps the student teacher to think through the discipline in an in-depth way. This component uses the framework of reasoning and analysis for critical reflection into any subject, task, issue or decision. The component has proven to help the student teacher to improve academic scores, equip with tools for emotion regulation and thought organization and diverse perspective in the profession.  

The National Education Policy emphasizes on pedagogical tools like Experiential Learning, Critical Thinking and Art integration. These pedagogies are dominantly used in the program to provide students with an exposure to the latest developments in the field. The course like independent study helps the student teachers to pursue courses on platforms like Swayam and Diksha thereby gaining exposure from experts working in the field and showcasing the Importance of time and space of learning for the student teacher in the academic journey.  

Complementing the academic curriculum is a focus on professional development, including career development sessions, networking events with school professionals, and internships. The program also incorporates a mobility window, providing opportunities for collaboration or participation in research projects and programs. The program also provides campus placement opportunities in the second year to make the student teachers applicable in the school system and preparing them for becoming financially independent.  

 

The final semester of the program incorporates courses like Reflective Practices and Equity in Education thereby providing opportunity to the students to know their academic journey in the two years and knowing the background of inclusivity in the field of Education. The final presentation of the Portfolio in the form of their reflective experiences in the field helps the students encapsulate the learnings from the school internship. The mapping of their academic journey during culmination meaningfully contributes to their advancement of knowledge as a teacher and as a person in the academic landscape. Thus, the program provides the student teacher with complete exposure to the teaching field thereby preparing them for the lucrative and sensitive field.

Choice-based Curriculum

Navrachana University, a premier university in Vadodara, known for its innovative and forward-looking approaches to education has now implemented a choice-based curriculum for its students. It is aimed at transforming the student learning experience, empowering them to “tailor-make” their own degree.

The need of the hour today is to create highly skilled professionals who possess a broad-based outlook enabling them to collaborate, understand and empathize with larger sociocultural realities.

  • Choice-based curriculum empowers students to choose 10% of course credits of their choice from other domains.
  • The mandatory courses of one domain will become the elective courses in other domains.
  • For instance, a student of Engineering can study Architecture and Design courses and vice versa.

Minor discipline courses

Navrachana University offers its students’ the opportunity to pursue a Minor discipline along with their major degree program, following one’s interest, which facilitates the growth of additional skills. Minors are a means of diversifying the understanding of a topic and a reflection of who one is as an individual. For example, a student of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) can choose a minor in ‘Interior Design’.

To attain a Minor, the students will need to do 18 credit worth of courses designated to diversify interests and gain a professional edge!

KHOJ winter school program

The Khoj program has been one of the defining social immersion activities at Navrachana University. Conceived right during the inception of the University, the Khoj program was envisaged to be a vehicle to inculcate social awareness, empathy, and interdisciplinary skills among our students, with a larger aim of proposing solutions to societal problems through innovation, it is through intense, rigorous, and field-based activities that students come up with an increased sense of empathy and awareness towards their surroundings. This program was further strengthened by engaging on topics that are relevant and can be made visible to society at large, the program is conceived as a larger and more ambitious activity that is undertaken by students and faculty members during the semester break under the umbrella of KHOJ WINTER SCHOOL.

Admission Process

Limited number of Merit Scholarships are available to meritorious students with a score of over 70% marks in Graduation. These scholarships are offered to students whose parent’s combined income does not exceed Rs 8 lakh per year. Interested candidates must meet Admin Department after seeking admission.

Pre- Teaching Sessions at the beginning of every semester.  

Pre-teaching sessions, conducted at the beginning of every semester, serve as vital preparatory sessions aimed at providing students with foundational knowledge and essential skills necessary for success in their upcoming courses.
