Program Details

The School of Science focuses on disciplinary plus a wide range of interdisciplinary courses to broaden students’ perspectives and knowledge in the Sciences. The high-quality programs are conducted by qualified teachers, along with guest faculty members from the industry, subject experts, and independent researchers. The school also collaborates with industry for research and development on real life projects, making students industry ready.

A robust placement assistance program bridges the gap between the student’s aspirations and industry expectations. Some of the leading companies in pharmaceuticals and clinical research employ students from School of Science at NUV.

The B.Sc. Physics (Honors) is a four-year undergraduate program designed to nurture students’ curiosity for strong conceptual foundations, advanced experimental skills and a research-oriented mindset. The program is carefully structured by placing Physics at the center with enhanced employability prospects and solid research capabilities. The coursework is thoughtfully designed and offers opportunities to specialize in cutting-edge areas like Quantum Technology.

Traditionally, undergraduate education in Physics has been predominantly theory-focused, offering limited routes for job readiness. The B.Sc. Physics (Honors) program at Navrachana University has been conceptualized to narrow this gap. The Program offers fundamental physics education to be evolved by skill-based courses, research exposure and industry practices, systematically connecting the foundations to the modern applied fields and remains aligned with emerging national priorities. The program aims to cultivate well-rounded Physics graduates ready to undertake diverse career paths and opportunities for higher education in premier academic institutions in India and abroad.

The B.Sc. Physics (Honors) program is spread over four-years integrating crucial areas such as core physics, mathematical physics, computational physics and data science, electronics and instrumentation, along with research training. Most theory courses are supported by tutorial sessions aimed at building problem-solving skills, as well as dedicated laboratory courses that provide hands-on understanding of theoretical concepts. Laboratory sessions foster collaborative learning, where students will be encouraged to assemble experimental setups, identify potential sources of error, evaluate them through measurements and plan for better experiments.

The program consists of a total of 176 credits distributed across eight semesters. This includes 15 credits under the University Foundation Program, while 26 credits (15%) are allocated to open electives available across the University’s five schools. Additionally, students engage in socially relevant projects through the KHOJ Winter School.

The first two semesters emphasize foundational subjects and are designed to build proficiency in computer programming and its utilization. Research skills are introduced from the second semester, with advanced coursework beginning from the third semester onwards. The curriculum also includes planned hands-on workshops and opportunities for institutional internships. In the final semester, students may choose between completing a thesis dissertation or undertaking on-the-job training (subject to available opportunities).

Students pursuing the B.Sc. Physics (Honors) program with a specialization in Quantum Technology will begin with some focused theory and laboratory courses from the fourth semester. The remaining curriculum remains consistent with the standard B.Sc. Physics (Honours) program.

  • Well-structured classroom sessions and individual attention to the students
  • Theory classes to discuss historical development of the subject, to inculcate scientific enquiry and to build strong foundations
  • Tutorial sessions oriented towards critical thinking of the learnt concepts and to develop problem solving abilities
  • Well-equipped Laboratory sessions for practical understanding of the theoretical concepts, developing experimental skills and estimating errors in the measurements
  • Focus on Hands-On learning with the help of machine and wood workshops,  Q- Lab, Tinkering Lab facilities for building diverse experimental skills

Choice-based Curriculum

Navrachana University, a premier university in Vadodara, known for its innovative and forward-looking approaches to education has now implemented a choice-based curriculum for its students. It is aimed at transforming the student learning experience, empowering them to “tailor-make” their own degree.

The need of the hour today is to create highly skilled professionals who possess a broad-based outlook enabling them to collaborate, understand and empathize with larger sociocultural realities.

  • Choice-based curriculum empowers students to choose 10% of course credits of their choice from other domains.
  • The mandatory courses of one domain will become the elective courses in other domains.
  • For instance, a student of Engineering can study Architecture and Design courses and vice versa.

Minor discipline courses

Navrachana University offers its students’ the opportunity to pursue a Minor discipline along with their major degree program, following one’s interest, which facilitates the growth of additional skills. Minors are a means of diversifying the understanding of a topic and a reflection of who one is as an individual. For example, a student of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) can choose a minor in ‘Interior Design’.

To attain a Minor, the students will need to do 18 credit worth of courses designated to diversify interests and gain a professional edge!

List of Minors

Health Science | Computer Science & Engineering | Business Law | Interior Design | General Management | Mechatronics | Film Production

KHOJ winter school program

The Khoj program has been one of the defining social immersion activities at Navrachana University. Conceived right during the inception of the University, the Khoj program was envisaged to be a vehicle to inculcate social awareness, empathy, and interdisciplinary skills among our students, with a larger aim of proposing solutions to societal problems through innovation, it is through intense, rigorous, and field-based activities that students come up with an increased sense of empathy and awareness towards their surroundings. This program was further strengthened by engaging on topics that are relevant and can be made visible to society at large, the program is conceived as a larger and more ambitious activity that is undertaken by students and faculty members during the semester break under the umbrella of KHOJ WINTER SCHOOL.

Thematic Clusters:

Public Health & Hygiene | Mental Health | Environment & Sustainability | Waste Management | Urban Development | Economics & Social Issues.

Students will do one project in their fourth semester. The last semester they will work either towards a Thesis Dissertation or on-the-job training in Industries (subject to available opportunities).

Admission Process

Strongly motivated students with a minimum of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and 60 % aggregate marks at 12th Board Examination are eligible to apply.
