Teaching and accomplishments

His current focus is to develop DNA methylation based epigenetic biomarkers using circulatory biomolecules obtained from liquid biopsies in different pathological conditions such as cancer, cardiac and neurodegenerative disorders. He has completed his PhD from Panjab University, Chandigarh in 2015 with fellowship support from CSIR and has worked on identifying the potential of natural compounds in reversal of promoter hypermethylation induced gene silencing of tumor suppressor genes. He was awarded DST-NPDF in 2016 to conduct research at NIPER, Mohali on developing and characterizing RNA aptamer with expression specific cellular internalization, targeted against human cytidine deaminase protein. Further to his completion of DST-NPDF tenure, Dr. Parashar was awarded with DHR-ICMR Young Scientist in 2019 with a funding support to conduct research on identifying the role of N6AMT1 protein as an adenine methyltransferase and maintenance of DNA methylation. Moreover, he also developed a restriction enzyme associated qPCR-based assay to determine locus/promoter-based DNA adenine methylation which was subsequently patented and further research is ongoing to establish the assay clinically.

He has worked as an Assistant Professor at Dept. Biotechnology, Maharishi Markandeshwar (Deemed to be) University, Mullana for four years from 2018 till 2022. Apart from academic responsibilities, he was also responsible for research and maintenance requirement of the department. He was also involved in establishment and maintenance of the animal cell culture facility and central instrumentation facility of the University. Presently, he is working as an Assistant Professor at the Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences from January 2023.
